What's Open and What's Closed on Labor Day 2012 in the Mendota Heights Area

Most retail establishments will be open Monday, but set aside your government business until Tuesday.

Labor Day began in 1882 as a parade in New York City organized by a Carpenters and Joiners Union secretary, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.

These days, many residents take advantage of the three-day weekend to kick back and celebrate the last hurrah of summer. You can expect all government offices to be closed on Monday. Banks will also be closed or only open for reduced hours. Major retail will remain open, while many small business owners will put up the "Gone Fishin'" sign.
