Reminder: St. Paul Bike Classic Could Use Some Volunteers This Weekend

A new alternative loop has been added to the race in South St. Paul

Mendota Heights Patch readers and bloggers Grit Youngquist and Jon Kerr submitted last week seeking out volunteers for this year's St. Paul Bike Classic being held on Sept. 9.

Due to construction plans from the St. Paul Park Department, the race's normal Lilydale Loop through Lilydale Regional Park can't happen, which means a new stop has been added through South St. Paul at the Simon Ravine rest stop.

You'll have to wake up early (like, 7:30 a.m. early) but the Friends of Lilydale Park could use a hand or two to help serve drinks to participants and encourage bikers who might be close to hitting a wall. Plus, you'll get a free t-shirt.

Those of you still debating whether or not you want to participate yourself will be able to register on Sunday morning starting at 7:15 a.m. at St. Thomas, the event's kick-off location. From there, you'll be able to select one of four courses to ride in, ranging from 15 miles to a much more grueling 41-mile path.

If you're interest in volunteering, contact Jon or Grit at 651-227-2264 or register on the web site
