Photos: Red Bull Crashed Ice Offers a Rush to Crowds, Athletes in St. Paul

Skaters and spectators from across the Twin Cities and the world gathered at the St. Paul Cathedral last weekend for speed and spills.

The Red Bull Crashed Ice event on Cathedral Hill in St. Paul captured the attention of thousands last weekend, as athletes competed in "ice-cross," a perilous downhill ice-skating course.

The 406-meter track was constructed alongside the St. Paul Cathedral, and crossed over John Ireland Boulevard at a steep, twisted, pitch. While the sport is no-contact, plenty of skaters hit the ice attempting to navigate the course.

Mendota Heights resident Doug Hughes qualified in Thursday's time trials, and placed 105th in the final results. (Editor's note: Competitors are labeled by country only, so if I missed someone, let me know in the comments.)

Alongside plenty of Minnesotans, athletes from 24 nations were represented, according to Red Bull.

Canadian Kyle Croxall walked away with first place on Saturday, scraping past Arttu Pihlainen of Finland.
