MnDOT: Prescribed Burn Near I-494 Planned Through December

The treatment could result in smoke on the interstate east of Mendota Heights by South St. Paul.

A prescribed burn at the Burns Wetland along Interstate 494 west of Hardman Avenue near South St. Paul is being planned by the Minnesota Department of Transportation for upcoming months.

The burns are used to control weeds and promote native vegetation. Controlled burns are scheduled through December and will be carried out under “optimal weather conditions to ensure effectiveness and safety,” according to a statement by MnDOT.

Traffic will not be disrupted by the activity. MnDOT recommends that if smoke drifts to I-494 that drivers should slow down and proceed with caution.
