Powerball Draws Big Dreams to Lilydale's Holiday

Cashiers at Holiday on Highway 13 share what it's like when a $305 million jackpot is on the line.

The estimated Powerball jackpot has reached $305 million, prompting more than a few local residents to buy a ticket and dream big.

Every other customer in the door has been buying a Powerball ticket, said Nicole Dixon, an employee at the in Lilydale. 

Dixon said big jackpots bring in people that usually don't buy lottery tickets and don't know what to ask for or how much it costs.

"I try to make it fun for them," she said.

She's heard plenty of plans about what customers will do with the money, ranging from paying off college educations to buying a baseball team.

Holiday employee Kyle Palma doesn't get to sell many tickets because he usually works at night, but he's bought a ticket for himself. He said he'd give $10 million to everyone in his immediate family and buy a tour bus for his band if he wins.

Tips for buying a Powerball ticket:

  • Powerball tickets cost $2 these days.
  • The machines that issue tickets close between midnight and 5 a.m.
  • Sales stop one hour before the national drawing.
  • Drawings are on Wednesday and Saturday at 9:59 p.m. central time.
