Patch Picks: Five Hot Reads

Looking for a good book? Here are some ideas from the experts Wentworth Library.

This week, the National Education Association (NEA) celebrates "Read Across America Day," so Mendota Heights Patch asked La Vonne Stein, reference librarian at the Wentworth Library in West St. Paul, what is being read across the Mendota Heights area right now.

"By far, the most popular books are the Stieg Larsson trilogy," she said.  "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo," "The Girl Who Played with Fire" and "The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest."

Adult

'Bed of Roses' by Nora Roberts
This story is part of Roberts' Bride Quartet series and tells the story of a florist named Emma who falls for an architect named Jack.  If you're a Roberts fan, you won't want to miss this one.

'The Bear and the Dragon' by Tom Clancy

Another political thriller in the wildly popular Jack Ryan series by prolific author Clancy.

'Courage to Stand: An American Story' by Tim Pawlenty

According to Stein, this new autobiography by the former governor as well as other political memoirs such as "America by Heart: Reflections on Family, Faith and Flag" by Sarah Palin are particularly sought-after by readers in the Mendota Heights area.

Teens

'Incarceron' by Catherine Fisher

This fantasy about a 17-year old boy named Finn, imprisoned in a strange and mysterious castle, will only become more popular with the upcoming release of the movie, starring Twilight superstar Taylor Lautner.

'The Hunger Games' by Suzanne Collins

The first in a trilogy (other titles are "Catching Fire" and "Mockingjay"), "The Hunger Games" features teens who compete against one another in a televised, gladiator-style competition while living  in the remains of a country that used to be the United States. This series is also coming soon to movie theaters.
