Mendota Post Office Still in Limbo

No changes have been made to list of USPS locations being reviewed for closure.

A rumor that the had been taken off a list of locations being reviewed for closure is unfounded.

And while it hasn’t been taken off the list, it hasn’t been selected to close either, said Pete Nowacki, United States Postal Service spokesperson.

“We’re about where we stood a couple of months ago when it was announced,” said Nowacki.

A study of the locations is still underway. A public meeting is still expected some time in December.

“It was commonly thought of that we somehow disappeared from the list,” said Mendota’s mayor, Brian Mielke, who heard the comment at the October council meeting. He said he checked with postal clerk Mike Schletty to determine it was untrue.

Without any tangible progress in the USPS’s review process, there has been little information to report to residents. However, Nowacki said they will be notified of the public hearing—by mail of course.
