Mendota Heights Celebrates Parks This Saturday

Will residents get the first sunny day in years for the annual Parks Celebration?

To Mendota Heights residents, summer in the parks means activity, family and fun. All of these will be featured at the city’s annual Parks Celebration June 4.

The celebration will take place at from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m., and feature family-friendly music and activities.

“It’s a chance for families to come and enjoy all that we have to offer in our parks,” said Jake Sedlacek, assistant city administrator.

The festival will feature a petting zoo, face painting, fire truck rides, bouncy houses, craft activities, games and a handful of prize drawings. There will be demonstrations from Boltz’s Tae Kwon Do and a tennis block party area, complete with mini-nets to introduce little ones to the sport.

Live music from The Splatter Sisters will begin at 11:30 a.m. All celebration events are free of charge.

In addition to the activities of the festival, attendees will be able to enjoy the Mendota Heights Athletic Association’s baseball tournament, and the Mendota Heights 5K at The Village. Check back Thursday for more information on the 5K.

Mendakota’s fields will be bustling all weekend with baseball and softball games taking place Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

“There will be over 500 kids participating in the games this weekend,” said Amelia Olson of the Mendota Heights Athletic Association.

MHAA will also be operating a concessions stand during the tournament, selling drinks, hot dogs, Tommy Chicago’s pizza and more. Concession proceeds will benefit the association’s sports programs.

One fickle detail of the celebration has yet to be determined, but signs are good that the weather will finally cooperate far better than in past years. The forecast calls for mostly sunny skies and a high of 81 degrees.
