Major Interstate Closures in St. Paul Start Friday Night

If you're heading north from the Mendota Heights area, plan your trip accordingly.

Well Mendota Heights, if you want to go pretty much anywhere this weekend, be generous with your travel time.

Westbound and eastbound Interstate 94 between Interstate 35E and Highway 280 will be closing starting at 8 p.m. (westbound) and 10 p.m. (eastbound) for the rest of the weekend.

Interstate 35E will close at 10th/Wacouta Street exit and the 11th Street exit starting at 8 p.m. (southbound) and 10 p.m. (northbound).

The closures are due to Central Corridor light rail construction and removal of a pedestrian bridge. Everything is scheduled to reopen by 5 a.m. Monday.

In addition, northbound Highway 52 will be closing at 8 p.m. Friday through 5 a.m. Saturday.*

The posted detours route traffic from Interstate 494 south of Mendota Heights heading east to Highway 61/Arcade north to Highway 36 west to Highway 280 and back south to Interstate 94—just imagine a loop around and over St. Paul.

Mendota Heights area travelers will likely find their central location helpful in the case of this weekend's major closures—there's always Highway 55 to Minneapolis, the High Bridge into downtown St. Paul or Ayd Mill Road to Snelling if you need to get to University Avenue.
