Local Father’s Day Gifts: For the Gym Rat

Discover where to get that gift for dad while staying in the Mendota Heights area.

With less than a week left before Father’s Day, many local shops offer great gifts for dad, no matter what his interests. Check back each day this week for more local picks.

If dad is the kind of guy who spends all his time at the gym pumping iron, he might be ready for a change in his routine with a boot camp from CrossFit Mendota.

“You’re going to sweat,” said owner Pat Costello of his hourlong, high intensity, full body workout. Made up of constantly varied functional movement, this group fitness activity is good for encouragement, accountability and a little friendly competition.

During the month of July, Costello is offering a Foundations class, which teaches the core moves used in CrossFit in a small group setting ideal for individual coaching and easing into the group.

CrossFit Mendota, soon to be located at 2535 Pilot Knob Road, will have its grand opening early in July, with its first set of Foundations classes to start on July 12, according to Costello.

Families can sign dad up for a free month of Foundations, valued at $109, which includes six sessions happening twice a week for three weeks followed by one week of unlimited group classes. Upon completion of Foundations, dad will automatically be signed up for three times a week at $139 a month.

Fitness packages are $139 for 12 classes at two times a week or $169 for 18 classes at three times per week - with discounts given to students, military or emergency responders. However, if dad just wants to take a class here or there, the drop-in fee is $20 per class. Visit www.crossfitmendota.com for more details and options.

If dad wants to attend the grand opening of CrossFit Mendota, grab him a ticket for the event for $10 - and all profits will go toward the Fight Gone Bad charity event in September. http://sportsgrants.org/fgb6/
