Local Father’s Day Gifts: For the Connoisseur

Discover where to get that gift for dad while staying in the Mendota Heights area.

With just a couple days left before Father’s Day, many local shops offer great gifts for dad, no matter what his interests.

Now, if dad’s a scotch drinker, The Wine Market, 720 Main Street off Highway 110, has the perfect gift.

For $94 you can get dad a single malt scotch sampler by Macgavin’s, with 750 mL bottles each of Lowland, Speyside, Highland and Isley.

“I’m personally giving it to my dad,” said Pattie Judalena of the Wine Market. “For a scotch lover, it’s a great value to get four different regions, four different styles of scotch.”

If dad has a favorite poison other than scotch, there are plenty of options at The Wine Market. The beer wall holds dozens of kinds of beer by the bottle so dad can make his own six-pack—all for 10 percent off.

“It’s just a great way to get a nice variety,” Judalena said. “There’s bound to be many dad will like.”

If dad likes wine, sign him up for the Market Wine Club. Being part of the club has many benefits, such as discounts, first dibs and a welcome basket with two bottles of wine, chocolates, two Riedel glasses (priced at $24.95 each) and a tasting journal. Club membership ranges from $24.99 a month to $119.99 a month.

Keep an eye out for events at The Wine Market if dad isn’t sure what he likes. Scotch tastings happen six times a year, there is bourbon tasting September 21 and a cognac tasting October 20— each with minimal cost. Private wine and beer tastings—if dad wants to bring friends or clients—are free and can be tailored to his tastes.

On July 19, The Wine Market is hosting a dinner at the Strip Club, 378 Maria Avenue in Saint Paul, with wine from the Joseph Phelps vineyard in Napa, California. For information about the dinner, email Judalena at pattij@thewinemarket.us.
