Highway 13 Repairs in Mendota and Lilydale Area Will Continue Despite Shutdown

The project qualifies as an essential service.

In case of a shutdown, repairs to Sibley Memorial Highway (Highway 13) east of downtown Mendota will continue as scheduled, according to Minnesota Department of Transportation spokesperson J.P. Gillach.

A washout on the road was by a resident.

State highway road projects could come to a halt if and when the state government shuts down on Friday.

But in a Wednesday, Ramsey County District Court Judge Kathleen Gearin determined that emergency state highway repair would be considered a protected service.

However, it did not list which projects were considered emergencies.

The road is closed to through traffic from Lexington Avenue in Lilydale to Second Street in Mendota. The road is closed completely where the washout occurred, just up the hill from downtown Mendota.

A detour of approximately two miles guides drivers from Lexington to Highway 110, and back to the west side of Highway 13 for drivers coming from the east.

According to MnDOT, crews will arrive onsite July 1, and work will begin after the Independence Day holiday.  The repair is expected to be complete by July 20.

In the meantime, the will remain open. A concrete barrier has been placed along the bottom of the bluffline in case of a slide.
