Get Out ... and Explore the Mendota Heights Area May 13-15

Donate food at your front door, watch a slam poetry performance and listen for the sound of songbirds this weekend.

 1.) 

When/Where: 6p.m.-8 p.m., Friday May 13, , 1355 Dodd Rd, Mendota Heights

2.) Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive

When/Where: Friday, May 13 at your mailbox

Why Go: The National Association of Letter Carriers, i.e. your postal worker, is gathering non-perishable food donations this Saturday. Check for a blue plastic bag distributed this week. Fill it, and leave it by your mail to be collected on the regular route.

Price: The warm fuzzies are free. Monetary donations can also be made online.

When/Where: 7:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m., Saturday, May 14, Heritage Middle School, 121 Butler Ave W, West St. Paul

Why Go: Crafts and garage sale goods will be up for grabs. Proceeds from table rental will go to the school’s music department, and sellers keep their profits. You can also sell unwanted, broken, or out-of-date gold, silver, or platinum jewelry to GoldSwap, who will be at the sale. A portion of those proceeds will also go to the school.

Price:  If you would like a spot to sell, slots are $20; table rental is $5. Register online, and pay the day of the event.

 

4.) Birding in Lilydale Regional Park

When/Where: 7:30-9 a.m. Sunday, May 15/ Meet at Bruce Vento Viewing Area, corner of Highway 13 and Annapolis

Why Go: Join in for a light hike and casual birding through Lilydale Park as part of the St. Paul Audobon’s 2011 Urban Birding Festival. Two St. Paul Audobon Society members will be on-hand. Bring binoculars and birding books if you like.   

 Price: Free, but email lilydalepark@oldmanriver.com with your name and the number attending. Canceled in case of rain.

 

5.)

When/Where: 2 p.m. Sunday, May 15/ Caponi Art Park, 1220 Diffley Rd, Eagan

Why Go: Competitive performance poetry is a not-to be missed experience. Watch slam poetry and break-dancing performances. Teens ages 13-19 that want to compete should arrive at 1:30 p.m. to sign up. Bring three poetry pieces for competition. All ages are welcome in the audience.

Price: Free, donations welcome
