Get Out ... and Explore the Mendota Heights Area Aug. 19-21

A drum corp competition, jazz in the woods and not one but two walks in Mendota are all happening this weekend.

When/Where: 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 20/ 780 S Plaza Dr, Mendota Heights

This carnival and car show is hosted by Boltz’s Taekwondo and sponsored by a host of community sponsors. The whole family can stop by for inflatables, games, food from Boca Chica, Subway and Coldstone.

When/Where: 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 20/ , 1357 Sibley Memorial Hwy, Mendota  

Why Go: Bring your well-behaved canine companion to learn about the fur trade and the significance of the meeting point of the Mississippi and Minnesota rivers. Historical Society guides will also include a few tales of Henry Sibley’s dogs.

2011 Sounds of Minnesota Drum and Bugle Competition

When/Where: 6- 9 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 20/ Ettinger Field, 700 Second St. N., South St. Paul 

Why Go: Drum corps and colorguards from across the country gather in South St. Paul for this annual competition. 

Pricing: $10 online, $12 at the gate

 

When/Where: 1 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 21/, 1357 Sibley Memorial Hwy, Mendota

Why Go: Don’t leave the historic experiences for the tourists. Learn about the landmarks in our midst during this 90-minute walking tour of the city.

Price: $6 adults, $5 seniors and college students, $4 children ages 6-17; $2 discount for MHS members.

 

When/Where: 6:30 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 21/Caponi Art Park, 1220 Diffley Rd, Eagan

Why Go: Bill Evans New Orleans Jazz Band is scheduled to perform at the Caponi Art Park’s Theater in the Woods, a unique fusion of Minnesota and New Orleans culture.
