UPDATED: Freeze Warning Issued for Mendota Heights Area

The National Weather Service predicts freezing temperatures Monday night, which could damage new plants.

Updated 11 a.m. Monday, April 9: The National Weather Service upgraded the freeze watch to a warning on Monday morning. 

Those with tender bulbs and take note: The National Weather Service predicts temperatures could fall below freezing after midnight on Monday. 

The Mendota Heights area is included in the freeze warning.

Cold air from the north is expected to push temperatures into the 20s in some parts of the state. Freezing temperatures are possible for several hours between 1 and 10 a.m. Tuesday morning.

The freeze watch advises that young vegetation and budding fruit trees could be damaged by the cold.

The University of Minnesota Extension recommends protecting plants from a spring frost with a sheet of fabric, plastic or straw.
