Mendota Heights resident Steve Hyland has been involved with the Irish Fair of Minnesota for several decades and now serves as the race and event director.

Needless to say, he's learned a thing or two about navigating the annual event.

The fair runs Aug. 10-12 at Harriet Island Regional Park, and includes free live music, food, dancing, booths and other entertainment. Check the Irish Fair of Minnesota website for a schedule of events.

We asked Hyland to share a few tips that every newcomer to the Irish Fair should know. These are his responses.

Tip No. 1: Don't Rush

Hyland: Set aside enough time to experience as much as you can while there.  

Tip No. 2: Be Prepared

Hyland: Check the Irish Fair of Minnesota website—take a look at the weekend calendar of events to see what you like.

Tip No. 3: Get Moving ... Or Not

Hyland: I'm biased with this one :))—register for the 5K or the Couch Potato ZERO-K! They will be fun. (register here)

Tip No. 4: A Little Luck?
