Construction of Delaware Avenue in Mendota Heights Well Underway

Continue to follow detours and use west parking lot access to Henry Sibley High School.

The upcoming week's schedule for construction on Delaware Avenue by Henry Sibley High School has been released.

Work is being done between the Highway 110 frontage road and just north of Marie Avenue.

The main entrance to the high school on Delaware is closed. Visitors and staff should use the west parking lot entrance off of Warrior Drive. Drivers can reach Warrior Drive by turning into The Village at Mendota Heights off of Dodd Road, and following the frontage road east. Access to the frontage road heading west from the intersection of Highway 110 and Delaware is also open, which can also be used to access Warrior Drive.

What's on the agenda for June 24-July 1? According to Dakota County, workers will:

  • Continue removing the pavement.
  • Continue stripping topsoil and some earthwork.
  • Continue work on the water main from south to north.
  • Begin storm sewer installation on the south end of the project.
  • Relocate private utilities (i.e. cable, electric, telephone, etc.).

The rainy weather has hampered the project's schedule a bit, according to Ross Beckwith, construction engineer. But since it's only the second week of the project, Beckwith said he's confident the crews will be able to make up time.

The road is scheduled to be complete before the start of the school year in September.

Construction of county and city roads will not be affected by a state government shutdown, according to Mendota Heights City Engineer John Mazzitello.

"We plan to continue," said Beckwith.
