Reviewer Gives Top Marks to New Sushi Spot

The new bistro opened in May in the Mendota Plaza.

Mendota Heights may not be the epicenter of Twin Cities gastronomy, but one prominent reviewer is lauding the brand-new Haiku Japanese Bistro as one of the top sushi spots in town:

"While Haiku isn’t knocking Masu, Sushi Fix, or Origami out of the top three local sushi spots any time soon, it’s making a decidedly serious run at the prospect — all it will take are a couple of bad bumps and a couple years of serious effort on Haiku’s part, and the area’s Japanese food fans may find themselves making a reverse commute for dinner."
In particular, the Heavy Table praised Haiku's Spicy Tuna Pizza as "the best thing we ate, full stop, no qualifier." The oddly-named dish—pizza is decidedly unusual fare at any sushi restaurant—combines scallion pancakes, raw chopped tuna, and several other ingredients.

When Haiku first opened back in May in the Mendota Plaza, user Deb Mack posted her own ecstatic review on Patch:

"My daughter and I loved the food. Very fresh sushi, great soup, great salad, great hibachi. The best food in a very long time! Left feeling full and healthy! I would give 10 stars out of 10 stars."
