Part Two: Find Last-Minute Gifts in the Mendota Heights Area

This is the second installment of Patch contributor Sarah Kirchner's last-minute gift picks for local shoppers.

With just a few days left before Christmas, many local shops offer great last-minute holiday gifts for everyone on the shopping list. Mendota Heights Patch is featuring a few destinations that will be open in the waning days of the shopping season and highlighting perfect picks for under the tree. Yesterday, contributor Sarah Kirchner featured members on any Christmas list.

For the cigar aficionado: If someone on your gift list is known to dismiss political correctness in favor of a little indulgence, Lilydale's has both the goods and the atmosphere for a perfect holiday pairing.

Owner Diana Petrich stocks her walk-in humidor with cigars ranging in price from $2-$27, and focuses on hand-rolled, quality items so that the cigar novice will be able to find a great gift with ease. "We have all the good stuff," said Petrich.

A Romeo and Julieta Edición Limitada, $27, comes packaged in its own festive red case and, as the name says, is a limited edition specialty release. A Montecristo box set comes with five premium cigars and an ashtray sporting the décor of the Montecristo label for $55.25.

For the cigar smoker that loves the accessories as much as the tobacco, a Lotus lighter of tangerine enamel may be the perfect choice. The $59.95 selection has three flame jets, and the color, said Petrich, is a reference to Lamborghini orange.

For the chef: Great chefs love fine ingredients.  Whether it's for a professional chef at a well-known Twin Cities restaurant or an aspiring chef at home, in The Village at Mendota Heights has many options for easy last-minute gifts.

The Olive Grove Owner Natalie Jaeger recommends one of three pre-packaged gift boxes including best-selling items from The Olive Grove. Boxes are $30 and include four 4-ounce bottles of popular oils or vinaigrettes. Popular individual items are the 18-year Balsamic Vinaigrette ($18 for a 12.7 ounce bottle) or the Tuscan Herb Olive Oil ($15 for a 12.7 ounce bottle).

The Olive Grove also offers dips, mustards, truffle oil, bread and oil servers, dipping bowls and olive oil-based bath and body products. The Olive Grove will be open Monday 10 a.m to 7 p.m., Tuesday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Wednesday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Thursday 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Friday (Christmas Eve) 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The store will be closed Christmas Day.
