Climate Change - we can do something about it!

Let's begin a conversation about climate change. You and I can take effective steps to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, promote clean energy and by our efforts make a difference.

Let's begin a conversation about Climate Change (CC) and what we can  do about it. That's right - we - people and towns just like us - can take effective steps to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, promote clean energy, work with our legislators and provide an example to others. CC is a huge issue but a journey starts with the first step - and the path to a safe future is being pioneered in the US around the world.  CC is here in Minnesota - expensive extreme weather events are breaking records year after year. Deluge and flood in Duluth. Mississippi too low for barge traffic. Central Plains drought draining lakes, threatening crops and livestock and kicking food prices up. Changing habitats altering the face of our forests and the wildlife we love.

On a global scale it doesn't matter where you live, CC is there. Glacier National Park without the glaciers. Die-offs in Australia's Great Barrier Reef. The polar ice is melting. Low lying nations are losing their land. Since 1993 sea levels have been rising twice as fast as in the previous 40 years. If sea levels rise another meter over 30 million people in Bangladesh will be displaced.

So what can you and I do? We actually don't have the option of doing nothing - Global Warming will require extreme measures at some point. Acting now will be more effective and much less costly.  Besides we owe a debt to future generations - the kids and grandkids, ours and everyone elses. We have the tools to beat this. What do you think?
