High Water Limits Mendota Heights' Recreation Options This Weekend

Thinking about going for a casual paddle on the Minnesota or Mississippi Rivers this weekend? Think again, say the Minnesota DNR and officials at Fort Snelling State Park.

“River levels are very high right now,” DNR water safety official Stan Linnell told the Star Tribune. “It’s not for the inexperienced paddler—and it’s not for the inexperienced boater, for that matter.”

Earlier this week, the Star-Tribune also reported that Fort Snelling State Park is also shutting down many trails after high water—and the promise of much more later this week—swamped several. According to the park's website, Pike Island and Picnic Island are both closed "until further notice." Campers with reservations during the closure should contact the park for a refund.
