Weekend Planner: Get Winched at Buck Hill and Comedy at Mystic Lake

This weekend bedlam will break out at Buck Hill, which is simultaneously hosting both Winchfest and the 15th Annual Subway Bedrace for Bridging.

So, what is Winchfest, you may ask? In short, it's exactly what you might expect

In the organizers' words:

"You add the winch to snowboarding, and it allows midwest riders who lack the terrain and snow of their western counterparts to travel at high speeds on a flat landscape. Put terrain park features in front of it all, and it makes for a great competition-style snowboard event."

Spectators will be allowed in free. The fest will also feature live music, beer, and food. Starts at noon on Saturday.

15th Annual Subway Bedrace for Bridging

Right next to Winchfest will be the Bedrace, which will overlap with the other event at Buck Hill on Saturday.

In their own words:

"Forget skis and snowboards! On Saturday, March 2, 2013, you and three of your closest friends can race down Buck Hill atop queen-sized mattresses! When you register for this event, not only will you have a blast, you will also help local families and individuals in need."

At 4:50 p.m. the opening ceremony will start. The race begins at 5. Proceeds support Bridging, a nonprofit that provides furniture and household goods to families and individuals transitioning out of homelessness and poverty.

Michael Kosta at Mystic Lake

Like standup? Then you'll like Kosta, a regular on "The Tonight Show" and "Chelsea Lately." Tickets are $19. Shows on March 1 and March 2, 7 p.m. and 9:30 p.m.

The Good News Big Band

If this all seems overwhelming, consider The Good News Big Band, which will perform at Trinity Evangelical Free Church in Lakeville this Friday. The show runs from 7 to 8 p.m. Tickets are $10. Proceeds from the show will go to the Lakeville police Chaplaincy Services program.
