Photos also tell the tales of Mendota Heights, Mendota and Lilydale. Check this space for moments captured in time and the stories behind them. It's not the dustiest car show ever organized, and no, there isn't a contractors' picnic nearby. Trucks and equipment parked just northeast of St. Peter's Church are positioned and ready to roll on construction of Highway 13 in Mendota. They're just waiting on a signal. Work that was to be done over July 24-27 was postponed at the last minute, and there is no word yet on when the equipment will power up and rumble out of that lot. What we do know is business access will be maintained, and two directions of traffic will be managed through a manual flagging system. Sign up for Patch's …
Demolition of the Lilydale Tennis Club began Monday morning. Taking down the building and doing some site preparation is estimated to take two months. Developers Lance Lemieux of Southview Senior Living and John Wall of Highland Bank submitted a final proposal last week to the Lilydale Planning Commission for a senior living building and an upscale apartment building to be built on the site. Under the proposed schedule, the senior living building will be erected first, with construction starting early this fall.

Whether you were trapped in Minneapolis, or building a snow fort in Mendota, let's capture the moments of Dec. 10-13's blizzard. The metro area expected 7-11 inches of snow Saturday alone, and 15-20 inches of snow when all was said and done, according to the National Weather Service and area forecasters. What that meant for us wass a lot of shoveling, movie-watching, and weather talk. Love it or hate it, this is what Minnesotans are made for. Upload your photos of personal triumph, fun, scenery or snow-driven exasperation so that we can all see what the world looked like beyond our own buried…

After reclaiming their sacred temple, the Maccabees relit the sacred fire with the last remaining pure oil. The amount of oil that should have only burned for one day lasted eight days, according to the…
Mendota Heights public works employee Cliff Kirchner worked Dec. 27 to clear the mounds of snow at the end of driveways in the Friendly Hills neighborhood. The city is working street-by-street as man hours and equipment become available to remove at least some of the towering snow piles. The goal is to create more visibility for drivers and make more room for future snowfalls, said city engineer John Mazzitello. Excess snow is being dumped mostly on vacant city property and in undeveloped areas of city parks.
