Hundreds crowded around Crystal Lake in Burnsville on Saturday to watch their friends and colleagues brave the icy waters during the South Metro Polar Bear Plunge—an annual fundraiser for Special Olympics Minnesota. Participants included a team from Mendota Heights-based Restaurant Technologies Inc. and a team, dubbed "Cops and Bobbers," from the .

Event coordinator Megan Lewis said 940 people registered to take a one-time dip in the chilly water for charity, raising $200,000 at the south metro event alone. There are 18 total Polar Bear Plunge events in Minnesota.
