What should be done about erosion of the bluff, and whose responsibility is it?
When erosion of the bluffline in Lilydale means mud and boulders on the trails below, that's a problem.
But with so many stakeholders involved—condo associations, the Department of Natural Resources, Minnesota Department of Transportation, railroads and the city itself—figuring out who should do what is also no easy task.
Mayor Anita Pampusch has been working to facilitate a meeting of the minds in order to keep homeowners happy and trail users safe.

I'd like to hear what some bluff residents think about this. I know some of the bluff restoration proposals were pretty expensive ...

The following questions arise as I read about this problem:
1. Are any of the properties on the hillside threatened by the erosion problem?
2. Have the properties on the hillside which may be affected been identified?
3. How long is the hillside which needs to be stabilized?
4. Is it less expensive to build a retaining wall of some type below the hillside to protect the trails?
5. What are the financing alternatives?

Good questions, Fred. I think technically every property on every bluffline is "threatened" on a long enough timeline, but for now the immediate concern seems to be rockslides and such. Maybe some of the property owners have info for the other Qs?

I made an offer on a condo on Sibley Memorial Highway in Lilydale. The closing is a few eels away. I hope to live there about ten years , maybe fifteen. I am worried about the erosion issues.

I put an offer On a condo on Sibley Memorial. The closing is in a few weeks.
I am having second thoughts after hearing about river bluff erosion issues. Any comments would be appreciated.
