Resident Jen Mattaini (left) came to the tree lighting with her family, baby Max and daughter Izzy. “Me and the kids like to get out and do holiday events,” said Mattaini, “even though it’s this cold out.”
Bundled up in the 12-degree Fahrenheit weather, a small but cheerful group of residents and Paster Enterprises executives celebrated the illumination of a Black Hills Spruce planted on the property with hot cocoa from Teresa's Mexican Restaurant.
Mayor-Elect Sandra Krebsbach (second from right) had the honor of hitting the switch and illuminating the Mendota Plaza tree. "Good will and good cheer on this second night of Hanukkah," said Krebsbach, "and to all, as we light this tree, merry Christmas." Developers of Mendota Plaza hosted a tree lighting ceremony Dec. 2 to mark the beginning of the holiday season and to thank residents and the city for their patronage during the recently completed construction. The Plaza received a facelift this year to update its look, layout and parking lot.
