Mendota Heights Man Sentenced to 33 Months for Robbing IGH Business

Minnesota sentencing guidelines dictate that Anthony Lawrence Rubio, 28, will likely serve only 22 months behind bars.

A 28-year-old Mendota Heights man was sentenced to 33 months in prison on Oct. 10 after pleading guilty to first-degree aggravated robbery in connection with a July robbery of an Inver Grove Heights business.

Anthony Lawrence Rubio was taken into custody July 2 after police say he walked into an Inver Grove Heights business on 57th Street, pointed a black pistol at a female employee behind the counter and demanded the woman open the cash register and give him the money inside.

According to a Dakota County criminal complaint, the perpetrator placed a pistol on the counter and began to take cash out of the till. The woman behind the counter noticed the name “Rubio” tattooed on the man's neck, a smiley face with stitches tattooed on the back of his head and a logo of the hip hop duo Insane Clown Posse tattooed on his arm.

During a post-arrest interview on July 2, Rubio did admit to robbing the business but denied threatening anyone inside or intending to cause any harm.

A search of Rubio's criminal history revealed misdemeanor charges for marijuana possession and minor consumption of alcohol.

Minnesota sentencing guidelines dictate that Rubio will likely serve 22 of his 33-month sentence behind bars.

What if the gun went off accidentally ? What if he slipped and shot and killed the clerk ? Luckily this did not happen. Let's not rely on luck. He should be put in jail , to protect the public, for 100 years.
