Inver Hills Partners with Saint Mary's U of M to Boost Business Curriculum
The partnership allows students who have earned an associate degree from Inver Hills to stay on campus and transfer into SMU’s Bachelor of Science in Business program.
The following is a press release from Inver Hills Community College:
Inver Hills Community College has again expanded the bachelor’s degree offerings available on its Inver Grove Heights campus thanks to a new agreement with Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota.
The agreement allows students who have earned an associate degree from Inver Hills in Accounting, Contemporary Business, Contemporary Business Practice or Individualized Professional Studies to stay on campus and transfer seamlessly into SMU’s Bachelor of Science in Business program. Similarly, those who have completed Inver’s associate degree in Emergency Medical Services (Paramedic) are able to continue into SMU’s Bachelor of Science in Allied Healthcare Management, also offered on the Inver Hills campus. The programs are available as of January 2013.
“Our goal is to help fulfill workforce needs by providing more baccalaureate degree options for students in a quality learning environment that maintains student convenience and comfort,” said Anne Johnson, dean of business and social sciences at Inver Hills.
Inver Hills and Saint Mary’s have worked together to provide education options in the south metro for more than a decade.
"Since 2004, we have together operated the Partners in Higher Education Center in Apple Valley, providing students with an option to complete their college degree at one convenient location,” said Paul Christensen, assistant dean at Saint Mary’s University. “Offering our entire Bachelor of Science in Allied Healthcare Management and Business programs at Inver Hills is the next great step for us to take as part of our efforts to bring education closer to where the learners live.”
Transfer between each of the connected programs is seamless. After completion of the associate degree program, students must apply to Saint Mary’s to be accepted into the bachelor’s degree programs.
“Serving students directly on site at Inver Hills will reduce several barriers for degree completion,” said Ian Pannkuk, director of transfer advising at Saint Mary’s. “Our transfer counselors, program staff and faculty are excited to assist Inver students as well as the community at large on their educational path.”
Bachelor’s degree programs have been offered on the Inver Hills campus since fall 2011, when the college partnered with The College of St. Scholastica to offer CSS’s Bachelor of Science in Social Work, to which students completing Inver’s associate degree in Human Services can transfer.
Advanced degree offerings were expanded in fall 2012 when Inver Hills formed a new partnership with Concordia University, St. Paul, to offer on campus Concordia’s Bachelor of Arts in Accounting, Bachelor of Arts in Organizational Management and Leadership, and Master of Business Administration. Students who earn an associate degree from Inver Hills in Accounting, Contemporary Business, or Organizational Management and Leadership can take advantage of those seamless transfer agreements.
“Inver Hills will continue to reach out to four-year institutions to offer baccalaureate programs on campus in new program areas, such as early childhood education, teacher education, construction management and others,” Johnson said.
