Editor's Note: The following is a news release from Dakota County.
The Dakota County Law Library and Legal Assistance of Dakota County, Ltd., will present a free clinic about criminal record expungement from 1–3 p.m. Tuesday, April 2, at Wentworth Library, 199 E. Wentworth Ave., West St. Paul.
A criminal record can be a barrier to employment and housing, but expungement of criminal records may be an option in certain circumstances.
The clinic will provide education on the expungement process and which types of records are eligible. Attorneys will be available to review records of attendees, provide information and advice tailored to each individual, and answer questions regarding court forms for expungement, which attendees will be able to work on during the clinic. Attorneys will not provide ongoing representation.
Those who are wondering if criminal record expungement is right for them are encouraged to attend and bring their criminal records with them.
Minnesota records can be obtained at any courthouse in Minnesota or can be requested from the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension. Records from other states can be obtained by contacting the court clerk in the county where a person was charged, and federal records can be obtained by contacting the court clerk at the federal district court where a person was charged.
For more information or to register for the clinic, call 952-431-3200.
